Special sessions are very small and specialized events to be held during the conference as a set of oral and poster presentations that are highly specialized in some particular theme or consisting of the works of some particular international project. The goal of special sessions (minimum 4 papers; maximum 9) is to provide a focused discussion on innovative topics. Each prospective organizer is invited to submit a proposal explaining the targeted topic’s novelty/importance and listing the contributing authors and their contributions.

Special Session on Global Software Development: Challenges and Advances

Global Software Development (GSD) has grown considerably in recent years due to the culture of globalization and other factors such as offshoring and groupware technology improvements. Furthermore it is clear that it will continue growing so, because it implies a means to reduce development costs whilst maintaining the level of quality. However, this practice is challenged by a sort of problems, as follows:

  • Problems caused by inadequate communication
  • Problems caused by the socio-cultural diversity
  • Problems in knowledge management
  • Problems caused by time differences
These challenges, together with the insufficient training of professionals, have been a matter of discussion in the past years, then, The objective of this session is to present advances and ideas to decrease the negative effects that GSD can bring.

Topics:
Global Software Challenges, Knowledge Engineering, Software Engineering, Methodologies and techniques for improving Global Software development, offshoring

Co-chairs:
Aurora Vizcaíno, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Spain
Gabriela Aranda, Universidad del Comahue, Argentina

Special Session on Applications in Banking and Finances

The proposed session deals with topics which are already present at the Conference, like the keywords mentioned above: Information systems, Data and information quality, Data-mining and Management information systems. Nevertheless, we are proposing a special session because it represents a niche of computing-related activities mostly present in banking. However, the common thread of the section is finances as an omnipresent and important factor in computerisation of any enterprise or institution. The papers reflect practical experience and partly represent case studies typical for a semi-developed transitional country eager to enter the European Union.

Keywords:
Information systems, Data and information quality, Data-mining, Management information systems, Finances, Banking, Risk, Higher education
