	ICSOFT is sponsored by INSTICC - Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication SCOPE The purpose of the ICSOFT 2010, the 5th International Conference on Software and Data Technologies, is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested on information technology and software development. The conference tracks are "Enterprise Software Technology", "Software Engineering", "Distributed Systems", "Data Management" and "Knowledge-Based Systems". Software and data technologies are essential for developing any computer information system, encompassing a large number of research topics and applications: from programming issues to the more abstract theoretical aspects of software engineering; from databases and data-warehouses to the most complex management information systems; knowledge-base systems; Distributed systems, ubiquity, data quality and many other topics are included in the scope of ICSOFT. Ideas on how to analyze and approach problems by combining software development and data technologies, either in the scope of R&D projects, engineering or business applications, are welcome. Papers describing new methods or technologies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. Papers describing original work are invited in any of the areas listed below. Accepted papers, presented at the conference by one of the authors, will be published on the Proceedings of ICSOFT, with an ISBN. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance and originality. Both full research reports and work-in-progress reports are welcome. There will be both oral and poster sessions. The best papers will be selected to appear either in an international journal or in a book to be published by Springer-Verlag. Additional information can be found at http://www.icsoft.org. Cesar Gonzalez-Perez, The Heritage Laboratory (LaPa), Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Spain INDUSTRIAL PANEL TITLE The Role of Software and Data Technologies in Enhancing Industry and Government Capabilities to Manage Economic Crises PANELISTS Dimitrios A. Beis Mr Beis was Scientific Secretary and Member of the Board of the Greek Energy Council until December 2009 responsible for the proposal to the government of the long term energy strategy for Greece. As Scientific Secretary he was responsible for recommending to the Board the yearly energy white paper as the head of the Secretariat of the Council. Prior to this post Mr Beis was General Manager for Technologies for the Athens 2004 Olympics Games Organising Committee, and his responsibilities included Information Technologies, Telecommunications, and Energy. During games time he was a member of the Olympic Games Operations Board. Mr Beis has occupied a variety of top management positions both in the private sector and the Greek Government. In brief from 1973 till 1988 he was responsible for the design and implementation of engineering projects including the design and construction of the Energy Control Centre for the Public Power Corporation. From 1989 till 1992 he was responsible for the introduction of advanced information systems for the Greek Government, while from 1993 till his appointment to the Olympics Committee he was responsible successively for the planning of energy production facilities and later for the privatisation of the electricity incumbent company. Mr Beis holds the degrees of BSc (Eng) from Aston University in England, Diploma of Technical Sciences of UMIST, MSc and DIC in Systems Analysis from Imperial College. Yannis Chryssoloras Mr Chryssoloras holds a B.Sc in Physics from the University of Patras, an M.Sc in Control Engineering from the University of Warwick and a Postgraduate Degree in Automation Electronics from the University of Athens. Mr Chryssoloras has had over 30 years of experience in Information Technology in many different sectors such as Banking, Retail, Telecoms, Postal services and has managed a large and varied number of large scale projects. He is currently responsible for transferring his accumulated knowledge and experience in the IT industry, by directing or consulting Private enterprises and Public organizations in rebuilding or improving their processes for the development of their business. Panos Louridas Panos Louridas is with the Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET) S.A., working on electronic Infrastructures, mainly Cloud and Grid computing. From this position he has coordinated several national and European projects, of multi-million Euro budget, and has participated actively on the development and deployment of infrastructure technologies. He is also member of the Software Engineering and Security (SENSE) group of the Department of Management Science and Technology, Athens University of Economics and Business, where he is conducting research on Software Engineering. His work has been published in international journals, and he is a member of the ACM, IEEE, USENIX, and AAAS. He holds a B.Sc degree from the Department of Informatics, University of Athens, and an MSc by Research and a PhD from the University of Manchester. Babis Theodoulidis Babis Theodoulidis holds the position of Senior Lecturer at Manchester Business School. He holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, Greece, MSc in Computer Science from the University of Glasgow and PhD in Computation from UMIST. He has published over 100 refereed journal and conference articles and his research work (as Principal or Co-Investigator) has been supported from UK and European funding bodies and also directly from industry. He has been involved extensively with European projects since the early days of ESPRIT in 1990 and he has been the project manager for the IST project PARMENIDES (IST-2001-39023). Babis Theodoulidis investigates the modelling, analysis and management of information within the context of business information systems and more recently, focusing on service industries. In particular, he investigates the temporal and spatial aspects of information, the analysis of information using data and text mining techniques, the visualisation of information, and information management issues within organisations such as information retention, audit and ownership and the role of the Chief Information Officer. PUBLICATIONS All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support. A short list of presented papers will be selected so that revised and extended versions of these papers will be published by Springer-Verlag in a CCIS Series book. The proceedings will be indexed by Conference Proceedings Citation Index, INSPEC and DBLP. EI already agreed to index the proceedings of ICSOFT 2006, 2007 and 2008. Proceedings of ICSOFT 2009 are under evaluation and the proceedings of ICSOFT 2010 will be evaluated by EI after their publication. VENUE Greece, located in the southeastern Europe, is a very beautiful country that offers top quality tourist attractions to the visitor. Consisting of the main land and several islands, it offers beautiful beaches, lovely mountain landscapes, many picturesque villages, and a wealth of archaeological sites and treasures. Piraeus, Greece's third largest urban centre and now part of the Athens metropolitan area, is located a few minutes away from the center of Athens - Greece's capital named after Athena, the goddess of wisdom, is a very attractive and busy city. Piraeus has the biggest harbour in all Greece and one of the most important in the mediterranean. At the top of that harbour, many little picturesque and lively bays may be found having many excellent cafeterias and traditional Greek restaurants and taverns. Piraeus is an ideal place to start off excursions both for island cruising and mainland sightseeing. There are many boats that start off their journey to the numerous beautiful Greek islands from the harbour of Piraeus which is the main connection point to all of the Greek islands. The conference will be held at the University of Piraeus, which was founded in 1938 under the title of the “School for Industrial Studies” and located in a modern building in the centre of Piraeus (one of the 8 universities in the region of Athens), in collaboration with the department of informatics. The department began operating in 1992 and focuses on both theoretical and practical aspects and advancements of computer science.
