The Role of Software and Data Technologies in Enhancing Industry and Government Capabilities to Manage Economic Crises

Dimitrios A. Beis
Mr Beis was Scientific Secretary and Member of the Board of the Greek Energy Council until December 2009 responsible for the proposal to the government of the long term energy strategy for Greece. As Scientific Secretary he was responsible for recommending to the Board the yearly energy white paper as the head of the Secretariat of the Council. Prior to this post Mr Beis was General Manager for Technologies for the Athens 2004 Olympics Games Organising Committee, and his responsibilities included Information Technologies, Telecommunications, and Energy. During games time he was a member of the Olympic Games Operations Board.
Mr Beis has occupied a variety of top management positions both in the private sector and the Greek Government. In brief from 1973 till 1988 he was responsible for the design and implementation of engineering projects including the design and construction of the Energy Control Centre for the Public Power Corporation. From 1989 till 1992 he was responsible for the introduction of advanced information systems for the Greek Government, while from 1993 till his appointment to the Olympics Committee he was responsible successively for the planning of energy production facilities and later for the privatisation of the electricity incumbent company.
Mr Beis holds the degrees of BSc (Eng) from Aston University in England, Diploma of Technical Sciences of UMIST, MSc and DIC in Systems Analysis from Imperial College.

Yannis Chryssoloras
Mr Chryssoloras holds a B.Sc in Physics from the University of Patras, an M.Sc in Control Engineering from the University of Warwick and a Postgraduate Degree in Automation Electronics from the University of Athens.
Mr Chryssoloras has had over 30 years of experience in Information Technology in many different sectors such as Banking, Retail, Telecoms, Postal services and has managed a large and varied number of large scale projects. He is currently responsible for transferring his accumulated knowledge and experience in the IT industry, by directing or consulting Private enterprises and Public organizations in rebuilding or improving their processes for the development of their business.

Panos Louridas
Panos Louridas is with the Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET) S.A., working on electronic Infrastructures, mainly Cloud and Grid computing. From this position he has coordinated several national and European projects, of multi-million Euro budget, and has participated actively on the development and deployment of infrastructure technologies.
He is also member of the Software Engineering and Security (SENSE) group of the Department of Management Science and Technology, Athens University of Economics and Business, where he is conducting research on Software Engineering. His work has been published in international journals, and he is a member of the ACM, IEEE, USENIX, and AAAS.
He holds a B.Sc degree from the Department of Informatics, University of Athens, and an MSc by Research and a PhD from the University of Manchester.

Babis Theodoulidis
Babis Theodoulidis holds the position of Senior Lecturer at Manchester Business School. He holds a Diploma in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras, Greece, MSc in Computer Science from the University of Glasgow and PhD in Computation from UMIST.
He has published over 100 refereed journal and conference articles and his research work (as Principal or Co-Investigator) has been supported from UK and European funding bodies and also directly from industry. He has been involved extensively with European projects since the early days of ESPRIT in 1990 and he has been the project manager for the IST project PARMENIDES (IST-2001-39023).
Babis Theodoulidis investigates the modelling, analysis and management of information within the context of business information systems and more recently, focusing on service industries. In particular, he investigates the temporal and spatial aspects of information, the analysis of information using data and text mining techniques, the visualisation of information, and information management issues within organisations such as information retention, audit and ownership and the role of the Chief Information Officer.
