ICSOFT is organized by INSTICC - Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication and in cooperation with the Object Management Group.

SCOPE

The purpose of the ICSOFT 2006, the 1st International Conference on Software and Data Technologies, is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested on information technology and software development. The conference tracks are "Software Engineering", "Information Systems and Data Management", "Programming Languages", "Distributed and Parallel Systems" and "Knowledge Engineering".
Software and data technologies are essential for developing any computer information system, encompassing a large number of research topics and applications: from programming issues to the more abstract theoretical aspects of software engineering; from databases and data-warehouses to the most complex management information systems; knowledge-base systems; Distributed systems, ubiquity, data quality and many other topics are included in the scope of ICSOFT. Ideas on how to analyze and approach problems by combining software development and data technologies, either in the scope of R&D projects, engineering or business applications, are welcome. Papers describing new methods or technologies, advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques and general survey papers indicating future directions are also encouraged. Papers describing original work are invited in any of the areas listed below. Accepted papers, presented at the conference by one of the authors, will be published in the Proceedings of ICSOFT, with an ISBN. Acceptance will be based on quality, relevance and originality. Both full research reports and work-in-progress reports are welcome. There will be both oral and poster sessions.
The best papers will be selected to appear either in an international journal or in a book to be published by Springer. Additional information can be found at http://www.icsoft.org.

All accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings, under an ISBN reference, on paper and on CD-ROM support.
A book including a selection of the best conference papers will be edited and published by Springer-Verlag.

VENUE

The conference will be held in the campus of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal. With five Schools, the Institute has excellent conditions for holding conferences, including several 100-seat lecture theatres and one fully equipped 350-seat auditorium.
Setúbal, a city with about 75,000 inhabitants, sits by the Atlantic Ocean and on the right edge of the Sado River, in front of Tróia, approximately 50 km to the south of the Portuguese capital - Lisboa - where the nearest airport is located. Setúbal offers its visitors an unforgettable environment: Dauphins and other ocean life, monuments and flaring landscapes are conjugated with an important industrial implantation. The visitor can find anything from ancient historical areas, in Palmela, to pleasurable beaches and modern golf courses, in Troia. It is also possible to make a break after the conference, in Algarve, less than two hours away from the conference site by car.
