Title:

A QOS DRIVEN APPROACH FOR PROBABILITY EVALUATION OF WEB SERVICE COMPOSITIONS

Authors:

Dessislava Petrova-Antonova and Aleksandar Dimov

Abstract: Service oriented systems are becoming a major area in software engineering due to promise of low time and cost of development efforts. However, in order to enable full benefit of service oriented architecture, some technical aspects of service-level agreements, also known as Quality of Service (QoS) are important to be evaluated in formal way. Currently evaluation of web service QoS is done mainly as underlying part of a corresponding composition model and many models consider only limited number of QoS attributes. In this paper we present an approach for evaluation of composite web-services, based on analysis of how they meet their QoS, which is applicable at multiple levels of service composition as well as for wide range of QoS attributes. Our approach is based on probability theory and is illustrated with a case-study.

Title:

SERVICE-ORIENTED INTEGRATION OF COMPONENT AND AGENT MODELS

Authors:

Nour Alhouda Aboud, Eric Cariou, Eric Gouardères and Philippe Aniorté

Abstract: Multiagent systems and component-based systems are two mature approaches; each one owns strengths and weaknesses points. Our goal is to integrate these two approaches by reaching a high level of connectivity between them to overcome their shortages. The concept of service plays a key role in their interoperability. Indeed, the relations between these three domains are manifold. From a service perspective, agents and components are considered as service providers or consumers while services can be seen as their functional abstractions. Therefore, the concept of service as the interaction point between agents and component is the base of our integration approach. We will define a specification process composed of several models. They are dedicated to specify an application through several aspects: abstract services, components, agents and mix of them. In this paper, we present a global view of this process and three of its models: service, agent and component ones.

Title:

USER PROFILE-BASED SERVICE DISCOVERY for eHEALTH

Authors:

Tesfa Tegegne, Benjamin Kanagwa and Theo van der Weide

Abstract: Personalization is not very common in Service-oriented Architecture and Service discovery in practice, yet very important as it enables to find more specific and relevant services. This is especially true in the case of complex service, where the system tries to find an optimal combinations of services that together can satisfy a (complex) request. We describe the relation between personalization and service discovery in general, and then concretize this in the proposed Service Discovery Framework (SDF). Personalization effectively improves the quality of the discovery algorithm in SDF. As an application, we show its benefits in the context of eHealth.

Title:

SERVICE REALIZATION AND COMPOSITION ISSUES IN THE HOMECARE DOMAIN

Authors:

Alireza Zarghami, Mohammad Zarifi Eslami, Brahmananda Sapkota and Marten van Sinderen

Abstract: Most of the industrialized countries are facing a new situation which is the increasing number of elderly people and the enormous cost of associated healthcare. IT-based homecare services have been proposed as a solution to alleviate this problem. However, the adoption of the homecare services is hindered by the fact that there are many heterogeneous IT solutions, which prevent interoperability and integration of existing as well as future applications. Service-Oriented Architecture and its advantage of service composition in a loosely-coupled manner are being considered as a promising approach to promote interoperability. In this paper, we explain our motivation for and understanding of a generic service-oriented homecare platform. We consider the SOA paradigm and its idea of logical separation of concerns to define a service realization and composition framework and to identify its challenges in order to realize and compose the homecare services. Using our framework, we evaluate three academic homecare projects to see how they address the identified challenges. The work presented in this paper helps researchers to understand the state-of-the-art of homecare-related platforms and technologies; and to outline issues for further research in the homecare domain.
